Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

You must meet the following minimum requirements to apply for permanent residence under the Canadian Experience Class. You must:
  • plan to live outside the province of Quebec;
  • be:
    • a temporary foreign worker with at least two years experience working full-time qualified (or equivalent) in Canada;
    • a foreign graduate from a Canadian postsecondary institution with at least one year of experience working full-time qualified (or equivalent) in Canada;
  • have gained your experience in Canada with work permit or study properly;
  • apply while working in Canada or the year after the end of your employment in Canada;
  • attach to your application the results of a language test administered by an independent third party (agency designated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada [CIC]).
According to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) of Canada, "skilled work experience" means:
  • a job corresponding to the Skill Type 0 (managerial);
  • a job corresponding to Skill Level A (professional occupations);
  • a job corresponding to the skill level B (technical occupations and skilled trades).
Your application will be evaluated based on two requirements if you apply as a temporary foreign worker:
  • work experience;
  • your skills in French or English.
If you are applying as a graduate of a Canadian post-secondary institution with experience working in Canada, your application will be assessed through the above requirements, as well as function:
  • your education.
